Etna excursion

This Etna excursion is an unforgettable journey. Together we will follow an exciting itinerary exploring the highest active volcano in Europe.

To reach the volcano we will travel along the famous Mareneve road (listed by National Geographic among the 70 most scenic cycling routes in the world). During the drive towards the northern side of Mount Etna, our expert guide will share stories and legends about the small Etna villages and the volcano itself.

Before starting the excursion we will stop briefly at a mountain refuge (1500 m). Here we will introduce the itinerary while enjoying a coffee and, for those who need them, we will provide trekking shoes free of charge.

Our Etna adventure begins with a visit to the impressive eruption of October 27, 2002, which destroyed the ski facilities of Piano Provenzana and a large part of the Ragabo pine forest. Walking through forest trails surrounded by pine trees, birches and ancient lava flows, we will reach the lateral craters offering breathtaking panoramic views.

The final stop of our Etna tour is the fascinating Grotta dei Ladroni, a lava flow tunnel where, equipped with helmets and torches, we will enter the cave to discover its origin and geological history.

Lunch break

At the end of the excursion, we will have lunch at the Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi (1500 m). Lunch is optional and must be paid separately at the chalet.

Alcantara Gorges

After lunch we will head towards one of Sicily’s most spectacular natural sites: the Alcantara Gorges. Along the way we will pass through charming Sicilian villages such as Castiglione di Sicilia, famous for its vineyards producing the renowned Etna DOC wine.

Once we arrive at the Alcantara Gorges we will enter the heart of these impressive basalt canyons which, shaped over centuries by the river’s erosion, have created unique basalt formations that have made the gorge famous worldwide.
