Tour Program

Departures for Etna excursions are from Taormina, Letojanni, Giardini Naxos and neighbouring towns (more distant destinations to be agreed upon). Around 8:30/9:00 am, our certified guide AIGAE will come to pick you up comfortably in your accommodation.

To get on the northeastern side of Etna, the journey aboard our vehicles takes about 45 minutes and sees us cross two towns of Etna: Piedimonte and Linguaglossa, located at the foot of the volcano.

After crossing the last Etna's village, we will take the state road Mare Neve that will lead us to a mountain chalet (Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi), here we will have time to sip a coffee and, for those without, we will rent-free trekking shoes.

How not start this adventure on Mount Etna from the infamous eruption of 2002 that destroyed Piano Provenzana and its ski facilities and part of the Pineta Ragabo. From here, we will continue and crossing the undergrowth unique landscapes will open to our eyes: breathtaking places, lava flows, pine, and birch trees will make our way to the peaks of the side craters.

An experience that cannot be described but only lived! We will reach the peaks of the famous "Bottoniera" of the lateral craters through unpracticed and particular paths. This part of the Etna is one of the most panoramic points and the best place to take beautiful photos.

Going down, the last stop on Etna but equally remarkable is the Grotta Dei Ladroni: a tunnel of lava flow in which we will enter equipped with helmets and flashlights to discover its history. Used in ancient times as a "Niviera" it has always aroused great curiosity and interest in those who wish to fully experience this part of Etna.

The tour

1 - Arrival Clan Dei Ragazzi

After approximately 45 minutes from our departure from Taormina, we will reach the Chalet. Here, we will take a short coffee break, our guide will present the itinerary, and for those who need them, we will provide trekking shoes free of charge.

2 - Visit of lava flow 2002

Visit the famous eruption that on the night between 26th and 27th October 2002 destroyed a part of Piano Provenzana (ski resort) and a large portion of the Ragabo Pinewood. We will stop to take pictures and explain the history of this flow.

3 - Exploration of a cave

Equipped with helmets and flashlights, we will explore a volcanic cave to discover its formation and tell you the story that it holds.

4 - Trekking to the craters

Unlike many other guided tours on Etna, we will take a non-tourist route (to avoid overcrowded paths) and reach the craters from a very panoramic point of the volcano. A breathtaking view will give vent to our inexhaustible desire for selfies.

Lunch break

At the end of the excursion we will have lunch at the Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi; (1500mt), where you can choose between a €10 menu that includes a sandwich of your choice, drink (water, Coca-Cola, wine or beer) and dessert; a €15 menu that includes bruschetta, a first course of your choice, drink, and coffee.
